Homework
Homework policy
Students will copy their homework every Monday for the week (Tuesdays, if there is a holiday). Homework should be verified and initialed by a parent in the agenda. It is the child’s responsibility to have the parent sign. The agenda will be checked the next day for parents’ signature and this will be monitored throughout the week. Students have until Friday to complete their Math assignments, unless stated otherwise. Homework for grade 4 consists of reading in French every night (15 min for a total of 60 min per week), studying a spelling list, studying their times tables and completing a Math assignment. Homework in grade 4 should take 40 minutes per night.
Math:
Students are expected to complete a Math assignment every week. This consists of a review of what has been presented during the week or review of what has been previously taught. Along with the weekly Math assignment, they are also expected to practice basic multiplication facts every night. We need to practice 12 questions in ONE minute. Being able to answer multiplication facts quickly is important to achieve automaticity of the basic facts. There are endless apps that you can use to help your child practice their times tables. One app that can be used multiple ways (including improving time) is Multiplication Table.***Please sign the Math test in the purple duo-tang on the first day of the week (unless your child was absent on Friday and did not write the test - they will write it the following Friday)***
Language Arts:
*Reading at home: Reading is fundamental to the development of children’s learning. It also facilitates their writing skills. Students are expected to read 15 minutes every night in French a book at their independent level (for a total of 60 min per week). Students will be reminded to choose 5 leveled books from the classroom library. They may also read their French Library book or a French book from the classroom library that is not leveled. At this point in French Immersion, students are still learning to read. To be able to move up reading level, it is important for students to read in FRENCH each night. Strategies for reading may include the child reading alone, with a sibling, with a parent, being read to, when possible. If your child misses one night of reading, they must double up the next night. Once the reading is complete, they are to fill out their reading log accordingly. The reading log is due each Friday.
French spelling (Orthographe): Students will be given a list of spelling words to study each week. They will be tested on Fridays. During the week, students are to choose a spelling activity to complete. They are to complete one spelling activity per night, for a total of four activities per week. Spelling scribblers are due each Friday.

PLEASE NOTE: ***Although homework is updated on the Weebly every week, please encourage your child to copy their homework at school as well. This is NOT meant to replace students copying their homework. Copying homework will be important to do in middle school as your child will be with different teachers throughout the day.
Homework is due every Friday (Math worksheet and reading log). Please make sure you sign your child's agenda on a daily basis.
