Classroom management
The Positive Behaviour Report (or “B.R.”) is intended to keep parents informed on a daily basis about their child’s behavior. There are three categories on the Positive Behaviour Report: Be respectful, Be safe and Be responsible. Under each school expectation, there is a list of expected behaviours that are posted in the classroom and reviewed on a daily basis. If the student has shown positive behaviour all day, they will receive a checkmark in each category. If not, then they will receive an “X” in the category which the expectation was not followed. Students will receive a verbal warning before an “X” is given, unless the offence merits immediate consequences (i.e. physical aggression).
The Positive Behaviour Report will go home on the first day of the week, is to be initialed by parents every night and returned to school the following day. Again, it is the child’s responsibility to bring it to school each day and to have parents sign. This will be tracked as well. When students turn them in on Fridays, if the Positive Behaviour Report has checkmarks all week, students will have their name put into a draw. I will draw one name at the end of each month from the “Bee-haviour” Report draw box. Students may choose a special reward if their name is drawn. Some examples of rewards include helping Mrs. Keizer in the gym, read, write, draw, or have computer time.
For the last 15 minutes of the school day, students will have a chance to take part in Learning Centers. These centers are curriculum based and includes centers such as reading, writing, board games, drawing, marble roller coasters, Math games or French games. If a student has received an “X” during the day, they will take part in the Skill Building Center. In this center, they will have a chance to reflect on their behaviour, and discuss how they will do things differently in the future. This form does not usually go home, but you will see it reflected on their Positive Behaviour Report.
